Object of the Day: The Silver Jubilee of King George V, 1935

Though the festivities for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee have concluded, we’re still going to continue our look at items related to the history of Her Majesty and the Royal Family. From my collection, he’s another postcard. This one was printed by J. Beagles & Co and is a “guaranteed real photograph.”

The front of the postcard shows a candid image from the 1935 Silver Jubilee celebration of King George V. Here, we see George V and Queen Mary with their grandchildren. At the center of the card, in her wee hat, is Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth II) standing next to her sister, Princess Margaret Rose. What strikes me is that seventy-seven year later, Her Majesty would stand in the exact same spot with her own grandchildren, looking across the Mall at the crowd gathered in her honor after serving her people for sixty years.
