Mastery of Design: The Countess Gautier Flower Basket, 1830

Brooch of Gold, Turquoise, Emeralds and Topaz
French, c. 1830
The Victoria and Albert Museum

From the collection of Countess Gautier, we have this brooch in the form of a stylized basket of flowers, the epitome of the Naturalistic style which dominated English and French jewels of the 1830s.

The brooch of gold is set with an emerald, turquoises and topazes and bears a Paris warranty mark for 1819-38.
