Mastery of Design: A Diamond Bar Brooch, 1935

Made in 1935, the year of the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary, this bar brooch shows the ideals of jewelry making of the Art Deco period when jewels set only with diamonds it came to fashionable prominence and jewelers experimented with different shapes and cuts of diamonds.

The jeweler Georges Fouquet wrote in “Studio Magazine” in 1929, “But how new is this white stone jewellery, and how much it differs from the old... The wand-shaped brilliants give different reflections from the round ones, and the most varied play of light may be obtained by arranging them side by side."
