Card of the Day: Guarding the Regalia at the Jerusalem Chamber

Yesterday, when we continued our look at the Churchman Cigarette Company's 1935 Silver Jubilee series in honor of King George V and Queen Mary, we had a glance at the Jerusalem Chamber at Westminster Abbey.

The chamber serves an important purpose in the coronation ritual since it acts as a storehouse for the Regalia and the Crown Jewels. These, before, during and after the coronation are constantly guarded by members of the Household Guards to prevent theft and tampering. The jewels can only be touched by authorized persons. After the ceremony, they are very carefully transferred back to the Tower of London.
